Rodrigo Navarro studied Chemistry at the University of Valladolid, where he received his degree with distinction in 2002. In 2004, he made his Master of Science under the supervision of Dr. Alfonso González Ortega on the subject “Synthesis of fused pyrroles to carbocycles or heterocycles from Weinreb amides” at the Organic Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Science, University of Valladolid. From 2005 to 2009, he received his Ph. D. (Dr. rer. nat.) with distinction from the University Complutense of Madrid, Spain working at the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology under the direction of Dr. Heltmut Reinecke. The topic of his Thesis was “New strategies to avoid DOP migration in PVC formulations”. Rodrigo moved to Germany in 2009 and worked as a post-doc in the group of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Rühe at the University of Freiburg, working on reactive polymer networks and microporous systems. In 2011, he returned to the ICTP and started a JAE-doc contract, which is focusing on the synthesis and characterization of novel additives for the internal plastification of PVC. He has received several competitive scholarships from various organizations, including the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), Ibercaja Foundation.

Rodrigo is author of more than 20 articles in prestigious journal and several patents. The subjects of scientific interest of Rodrigo are: selective modification of polymer surfaces, internal plastification of polymers and different other aspects related to organic and macromolecular chemistry.
