Born in 1972 in Madrid, Aranzazu Martinez is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology (ICTP) at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid.
Aranzazu obtained her B.Sc. at the Universidad de Alcala (1996). In 1997 she joined the Department of Physical Chemistry of the ICTP as a Ph.D. student. She worked on the synthesis and characterization of new liquid crystalline polymers and received her Ph.D at the Universidad de Alcalá (June 2003). She obtained her M.Sc. at the same University in 1998 working on thermotropic polybibenzoates with thioether groups in the flexible spacers.
In 2001 she received his DEA working on the application of X-ray diffraction to the study of the phase behaviour in liquid crystalline polymers
After one year (2003-2004) as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Physical Chemistry of the ICTP (Prof. A. Bello), in 2005 she gained a Juan de la Cierva contract at the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid) (Dra. C. Álvarez) to work on multicomponents systems, blends and nanocomposites, based on polymeric matrices.
In November 2008, she joined the Department of Physical Chemistry (Dra. M.L. Cerrada) at ICTP as a postdoctoral researcher to work on the orientation of smectic main chain polyesters.
In March 2010, she joined the Polycondensation and Polymeric Membranes Group to work on the synthesis, characterization and chemical modification of polyamides for water purification applications.
Dra. Martinez has published more than 10 papers. She attended the Advanced Specialization Course in Plastics and Rubber at ICTP-CSIC and she has proved experience on a broad range of methods of synthesis and characterization (NMR, UV/VI, FT-IR, GPC, DSC, TGA, X-ray diffraction, etc…).
