Born in 1952 in Aviles, Asturias, José G. de la Campa is currently Research Professor (2002) at the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology (ICTP) at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid. He received his Ph.D. (1978) at the Universidad Complutense (Madrid), working at CSIC (Prof. Barrales). After one year (1978-79) at the Laboratoire des Materiaux Organiques (C.N.R.S.), France (Prof. Q. T. Pham), he returned (1979) to CSIC (Prof. J. de Abajo) as a postdoctoral fellow. In 1981, he gained a Tenured Researcher position in the same institution and in 1988 he was appointed to the staff of CSIC as Scientific Researcher. Since then, he has been involved in numerous research projects mainly devoted to the design and synthesis of novel monomers and condensation polymers. In addition, his current research interests include computational modelling studies.

Dr. de la Campa, has published over 120 papers, trained more than 20 Ph.D. students and Post-Docs and maintains effective collaboration with national, European and North American groups of excellence. He has coordinated numerous National Projects and he has participated in three projects of the EU. He has also acted as main researcher in 15 R+D projects in collaboration with various companies.
